DEL SOL ROUSSANNE TASTING SHEET

The wine name: Del Sol

Del Sol means “of the sun” in Spanish. Like most fruits, the sun plays an important part in ripening grapes on their way to harvest. But with Roussanne it is even more apparent. This grape takes longer to ripen and the grapes take on a beautiful golden russet color. The French call it a Roux. We call it Del Sol.

Appellation: Central Coast

The Central Coast appellation is a wine region that spans the Southern San Francisco Bay to the northern part of Santa Barbara. This region has a characteristic warm Mediterranean climate with some very cool evening periods affected by its mountain passes leading to the Pacific Ocean. This warm weather and fertile land let the vines mature slowly and impart the grapes with maximum flavors, sugars, acids and the necessary components that make up this beautiful Vino Vargas wine.

Grape Varietal: Roussanne

Roussanne is originally from the Rhone wine region of France. In France it is often blended with Marsanne into the white wines of the Northern region. In the Southern region it is one of the white grapes that make up the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In the US it grows well in warm to hot temperatures like the Central Coast and achieves the perfect sugar and acid content at maturity.

Source: Single vineyard

This wine is made from grapes that were harvested by hand at the break of day. The grapes come from a single vineyard to ensure maximum flavor, consistency and authenticity. The vineyard is located in the Hecker Pass area of Gilroy.

Visual:

Clear and crisp with a beautiful golden russet color.

Aroma:

It has distinctive floral aromas and hints of honey, apricot and quince.

Taste:

Dry and crisp with some nice fruit flavors. Just a touch of vanilla and butter from the limited oak aging and no malo-lactic fermentation.

Barrel: New French Oak, 10%

Del Sol Roussanne was aged in wooden barrels for only two months and monitored closely to impart a 10% new French oak taste. This foundation gives the wine a luscious blend of spice, vanilla and slight butter.
