The wine name: Mas

Mas means “more” in Spanish. We liked this wine so much that we kept barrel tasting and we always wanted more. So, try this wine and you will be heard saying “Mas Mourvedre, por favor”!

 

Appellation: PASO ROBLES

Paso Robles has quickly become a destination for wine lovers of big reds like Mourvedre. Due to its intense micro-climates Paso gives rise to all styles of from the big extracted to the stylishly balanced. Along with its notoriety for Rhone varietals, Paso is quickly becoming recognized as a place to grow and make some excellent Mourvedre.

 

Grape Varietal: mourvedre, 100%

Mourvedre, also know as Mataro and Alicante is a full-bodied wine that originated in Spain. Mostly used in blends with Grenache and Syrah, on its own it is a unique wine. Loaded with dark fruit, one of the main characteristics is the floral and herbal aromas.

This wine is made from grapes that were harvested by hand at the break of day. The grapes come from a single vineyard to ensure maximum flavor, consistency and authenticity.

Visual:

Nice reds and purples reminiscent of strawberry and pomegranate.

 

Aroma:

Strawberry, blackberry with floral and herbal touches. A hint of vanilla, and a bit of smoke.

 

Taste:

Full-bodied, dry with dark fruit flavors, balanced acidity, supple tannins and overall smooth silky mouth feel.

 

Barrel: New French Oak, 30%

Mas was aged in wooden barrels and monitored closely to impart a 30% new French oak taste. This foundation gives the wine a luscious blend of spice, vanilla and slight char.

 

Pairings:

A delicious wine to serve with soft and mild cheeses like brie, smoked nuts, lighter meats like lamb, poultry and fish or shellfish.
